Work with us – could you be one of our trustees?

Join Our Board of Trustees at Helmsley Walled Garden
Are you passionate about making a difference and keen to get involved with a thriving local charity? Here at Helmsley Walled Garden, we are currently looking to welcome new faces to our Board of Trustees. We value inclusivity and diversity, actively encouraging people from all walks of life to consider joining us – whatever your background or experience, we’d love to hear from you.
As a Trustee, you’ll play an important part in guiding the charity, attending regular Board meetings (six a year, plus an annual Away Day), and getting involved in occasional project working groups – former examples include modernising our website and the development of our new buildings project. Your ideas and enthusiasm will help shape our future.
Because we’re a small charity with a dedicated team, Trustees work closely with our Executive Director, helping to develop policies and strategies. You’ll also take on the dual responsibility of being both a Charity Trustee and a Company Director, as Helmsley Walled Garden is a registered Charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee. Trustees serve a minimum term of 3 years, up to a 9 year total, giving you time to make a real impact.
Our current Board brings together a brilliant mix of skills and experience.
Right now, we’re especially keen to hear from people with experience of fundraising, finance, community health & well-being, and horticulture. Whatever your skills, however, you could be just the person we are looking for.
This is an exciting moment to join us, as the charity has been through a period of transformation over the past few years and is poised to begin one of its biggest fundraising challenges to date. The Board is ambitious and looking to grow our commercial activities and develop new income streams. Becoming a Trustee is a fantastic opportunity for personal and professional growth, especially if you’re new to this kind of role.
If you’re interested, please send on your CV with a short personal statement about what you feel you can bring to our organisation. Send your details to our Executive Director, June Tainsh, at [email protected]. Our current board of trustees will be considering all applications, however do feel free to contact June if you would like to visit the garden and have a chat about the role. Closing date for applications is Friday 8th May 2026. We look forward to hearing from you!
