The peace and tranquility of the garden is very much linked with its association with nature and the natural world.  We promote sustainable gardening, using peat free compost and as little plastic as possible.  We recycle all our green waste into our own compost and that, along with our leaf mulch, is returned each season to the beds and borders.  Our nature garden reflects plant varieties indigenous to North Yorkshire and our new pond is designed to attract wildlife and provide the right conditions for marginal plants such as candelabra primula.

Take time out to explore this beautiful garden with its intimate spaces such as the White Garden and Garden of Contemplation. Or sit and dream in the orchard; enjoy a picnic or get a bag of food from the kiosk to feed our friendly chickens. Find out about medicinal herbs or our collection of Yorkshire apple varieties.

Set in the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside, there are a number of other visitor attractions within walking distance of the garden, enabling you to plan your visit around some lovely nature trails.

The Cleveland Way, starting just outside Helmsley Castle, leads from the garden across to Rievaulx Abbey.  Heading in the opposite direction out of the bustling market town of Helmsley, visit the National Bird of Prey Centre and enjoy riverside walks in Duncombe Park.

Enjoy your time in this beautiful part of the world and find out more about staying and eating out when you visit Helmsley.
