Our award-winning Alpine Garden

We are over the moon that Helmsley Walled Garden has won the Silver Gilt award at the prestigious Harrogate Spring Flower Show 2024 for our alpine creation. This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the dedication and hard work of our incredible volunteers who created a beautiful alpine show garden in Harrogate that is currently being recreated in our own truly magical Helmsley Walled Garden.

Thanks to BBC Radio York for this wonderful view of our Alpine Garden

Bringing this new garden space to Helmsley will give our visitors ideas to replicate at home, using a combination of alpine plants to bring in colour all year round.

We cannot express enough gratitude to our team of volunteers who have helped make Helmsley Walled Garden the thriving, beautiful sanctuary it is today. Their passion for gardening (and getting stuck in) have allowed us to make a difference and achieve milestones like the Silver Gilt award at the Harrogate Spring Show. Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our walled garden, and we are immensely grateful for their commitment and support in learning to grow through gardening.

From the vibrant flowers to the stunning orchid house, every corner of the garden is a sight to behold. Nestled beneath the historic Helmsley Castle ruins, the garden has been brought to life through the passion and love of our volunteers and the support of our wonderful community.

The Alpine Garden under construction back in the Helmsley Walled Garden

Work on the next steps for the show garden will be its recreation at Helmsley Walled Garden itself. The garden will be full of alpine plants set in gravel and we will be recreating both the dry stone wall and the gravel path. Visit us soon to see this new garden in place.
