Save the date – Summer Community Day

26th August 2023

It’s never been more important to get out into nature. Backed up by numerous studies, being outdoors, in a green space, can have a huge impact on our mental wellbeing. Through our work with volunteers, we know how important fostering a sense of community is and we’re really enjoying bringing people together as part of our community days. These events are all about experiencing the garden and by proxy of that, helping to increase connectedness to nature.

So, we’re delighted to announce our second community day, on the 26th August for a fabulously fun day out at the Helmsley Walled Garden.

We have a lovely line-up of events, which includes two free guided tours of the garden. You’ll learn more about the garden’s history, the garden design and how it’s beneficial to everyone who passes between its walls, and also learn about the work we do with our community. Each tour is for a maximum of 30 visitors and will start prompt at the times indicated. Please do make sure you are there on time to avoid disappointment.

Robin will demonstrate how much worms can enrich soil and the wonder of worms, in a wormery-making workshop.

Forest Craft & Play will host two puppet-making craft workshops where children aged three to 12 will sew a fire-breathing felt dragon and take it on an adventure through the garden.

You can also find out more about the work our garden and kiosk volunteers and the work they do to keep everything running.

Feed the chickens for a small donation, pick a posy, play hide and seek, or walk the labyrinth in your bare feet. We’ll also have special Vine House Café picnics, with a basket and blanket on borrow to enjoy in our garden.

The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and the RSPB will join us so you can find out more about the protection of wildlife and birds and how you can support these important organisations.
