Drawing From Nature with Clare Belbin: A Two-Day Course

Immerse yourself in the beautiful surroundings of the Helmsley Walled Garden and create artworks inspired by nature.

Whether you are totally new to drawing or have past experience and are looking to rekindle a love of the medium, this course will provide an inspiring artistic challenge. We will look at the fundamental elements of drawing which can then provide you with the basic building blocks to develop further; shape, line, rhythm and tone will all be explored. Subject matter will be taken directly from the walled garden, which at this time of year is bursting with form, shape and texture. This course is designed to inspire!

In terms of medium, we will look at using graphite, charcoal and conte.

Who is the course for: both beginners and those with experience wanting to refresh.

Materials: paper, graphite, charcoal – these will be made available, but please feel free to bring ones own.

Times:

Start: arrive at 9.45am for 10.00am start

Morning coffee/tea break: 10.45am-11.00am

Lunch: 12.30pm – 1.15pm

Afternoon tea break: 2.45pm – 3.00pm

Finish: 4.00pm

Tutor bio: Clare Belbin Carlile studied Fine Art at Newcastle University and completed her postgraduate in Drawing & Painting at Edinburgh College of Art, exhibiting regularly since then. Clare has been resident artist at Helmsley Walled Garden for a number of years and can be found most days throughout the year (in all weathers!) painting in the borders of the garden. She has extensive experience in teaching courses in creativity, as well as mindfulness.
